Are you a fan of tacos? So are we!
We love our tacos, and #TacoTuesdays have proven to be our most popular events, both for our public long-table suppers and for our bespoke private-booking dinners.
Last summer we hosted a number of taquizas (that is Mexican for ‘taco-feast’), and these last two weeks we had back-to-back #TacoTuesday dinners, one for our very first private booking of 2017, and another one for a public supper club dinner.
So what makes our tacos so special?
Well for one, our heritage. Most of us at The Art House Supper Club are Mexican, either by birth or by naturalization, and the rest of us by heart. We visit our homeland yearly and in the months we spend in Vancouver, we often eat Mexican food, both in and out of our home. We simply can’t get enough!
Our Chef Rose was born in Canada, but after living in Mexico for over 20 years, she’s mastered the techniques of some of the country’s most popular recipes, and we all love sharing our heritage with our guests. Our inviting supper club is what really makes a difference though, a unique dining experience, whether you eat inside in our art-filled (very Mexican, by the way) dining room, or outside in our lush North Vancouver garden.
So what can you expect?
As everyone who has visited our supper club knows (as well as those who have yet to visit, but follow our blog and social media channels), we always serve multi-course dinners. While our menus are usually four-courses, those who come to dine for our #TacoTuesday dinners will be fed course after course of delicious Mexican goodies.
Starter – Our #TacoTuesday dinners start with anything BUT tacos. We alternate between beginning our meal with a delicious homemade empanada with chicken in mole sauce, tuna or seasoned ground beef; or a newly introduced starter of a tostada: a deep-fried corn tortilla topped with refried beans, chicken, lettuce and cheese.
Main Course – Our chef prepares a variety of tacos for our guests, all of which are served in corn tortillas. Our menu changes from time to time, but you will always find three different varieties of tacos at any meal: carnitas, slow-roasted pork loin marinated with lime and tequila, served with avocado and cilantro; rajas, roasted Poblano and coloured peppers in cream; asado, Barbecued beef flank; and/or al pastor: braised pork meat marinated with guajillo chilli sauce, served with grilled pineapple, cilantro and onions. During the main course, guests can help themselves to seasoned rice, refried beans and cactus salad, as well to a variety of salsas to complement their meals!
Dessert – To end the mea with a bang, we alternate in between a delicious rich coconut or coffee flan with the consistency of creamy cheesecake, or our house special: warm mango tacos, drizzled with goat’s milk caramel! All desserts are served with coffee or tea, of course!
BYOB – as with any of our supper club dinners, our #TacoTuesday nights are BYOB. While we always encourage our guests bring wine, for this specific dinner we recommend bringing light Mexican-style beers instead… but the choice is always yours.
