It’s felt like a long time coming, but summer is finally in Vancouver!
Longer days and warmer nights are making each one of us just that little bit happier. It’s true that Vancouver is at its best in summer, and for us at The Art House Supper Club, summer months mean alfresco dining in our beautiful yard.
Looking to celebrate a special occasion in a unique setting? Book your private dinner party for a group of eight to 20-something guests at our supper club! Depending on the size of your group we will be able to accommodate either a four-course sit down dinner, or a cocktail-style party with a plethora of tapas to meet all tastes.
Past visitors to The Art House Supper Club will have had a chance to roam through our gallery-like living and dining rooms and admired our large collection of original art.
In our last post we spoke about the father of our family run supper club, Andres Gurumeta, a talented artist of Mexican descent who has painted many of the oil paintings that now adorn our walls. Andres incorporates his Mexican heritage into his art, often in the bright colours he uses to bring life to his subjects.
Some past guests will know that the idea for our name “The Art House” comes from a former gallery in Zihuatanejo Mexico, owned by Andres and his wife Rose (the chef of the supper club), called “Galeria Casa del Arte” – literally translating to “Art House Gallery.”
As an homage to this gallery, we continue to sell Andres’ art from our North Vancouver supper club, giving our guests the perfect memento, an original art piece to start a collection, or a unique gift idea for those art lovers in your life.
Spring is in the air in Vancouver, and we are looking forward to welcoming more of you to our table!
While we wait for the warm weather to finally get here (with some exciting changes coming to our garden – stay tuned!), we continue to host our supper club dinners in our beautifully decorated art-filled dining room.
While we don’t have any long-table suppers planned right now, you can still visit us at The Art House Supper Club by booking our space for a private booking. All you need is a minimum of eight friends (easy enough to organize a quad date!) and you can enjoy a wonderful four-course meal in North Vancouver’s most unique dining space, starting at only $49 per person… and you can BYOBottle of wine!
We also have cocktail-style tapas menus to host larger parties from 12-22 guests, so come to celebrate those special milestones with us – from birthdays to bachelorette dinners and holiday celebrations, The Art House Supper Club is the perfect venue.
Did you know you can book The Art House Supper Club to host your very own dinner party? Well, now you do!
While we continue to value the importance of our long-table suppers in Vancouver’s growing dining scene, we also host private parties for all sorts of special events and general friend and family dinners.
Our supper club is the perfect venue to make special occasions that bit extra special, and over the past few months we have hosted milestone birthdays (including a 90th birthday celebration!), bachelorette dinners, friends get togethers and Christmas-time parties.
With four-course dinners starting at as little as $49 per person and our BYOB policy, you too can host an unforgettable dinner at our supper club for a group of 8 to 10 guests (12 if you don’t mind being squished) in North Vancouver’s most unique dining space.
If you have a larger group, we can host up to 22 or so guests with our cocktail-style tapas menu for as little as $35 per person. You can select which tapas we serve out of our wide menu, including vegetarian and gluten free options, and delicious dessert tapas.
Our beautiful art-filled dining and living rooms provide the perfect venue to relax and mingle with your guests while we take care of the food and make sure everything is in order. All you have to do is have a great time and actually enjoy “hosting” your dinner party… and when you’re done, you leave the cleaning to us!
Have you ever had an intimate dinner party with a group of strangers from different parts of the world?
Since we started our secret dinners last summer, our supper club dinners have attracted people from all over the world, and our Mediterranean BBQ last Friday the 9th of June was our most international crowd yet!
Guests got to know each other over a glass of wine outside in the garden before heading in to the dining room for a delicious four-course Mediterranean-inspired feast. Our guests included two local North Vancouverites – a teacher and an art consultant; an event planner from India; a Hungarian art lover; and a couple from Belgium and England, who were visiting Vancouver for their honeymoon. Once again, I got to join our guests at the table, adding a Mexican into the mix.
The meal began with an appetizer platter with dolmades with tzatziki, a deconstructed Greek salad, and spicy eggplant humus with pita bread. For the main course, we had a freshly-barbecued beef & coloured pepper souvlaki served with orzo salad. Our dessert was a creamy pistachio custard pie, and as usual, our evening ended with a cheese board. Throughout the meal, our guests enjoyed bottles of red wine they brought as per our BYOWine policy.
With an interesting mix of people coming together for dinner, our conversation over the evening ranged from art, to food and wine, travel, theatre, soccer and circuses. We also discussed the best things to do in Vancouver and its surroundings so the honeymooners could make the best of their time in the city. All in all, the conversation was light and fun, and everyone had a great time discovering the appeal of underground dining.
Long-table dinners with strangers will take most people out of their comfort zone, but it is an incredible experience you are sure to remember for years to come. If you wish to try out this unique dining experience in North Vancouver, check out our upcoming events and join one of our long-table secret dinners. For those looking for something unique but not ready to take the full leap, you can book The Art House Supper Club for a private custom-made dinner party of eight or more guests – contact us for details!
We love our tacos, and #TacoTuesdays have proven to be our most popular events, both for our public long-table suppers and for our bespoke private-booking dinners.
Last summer we hosted a number of taquizas (that is Mexican for ‘taco-feast’), and these last two weeks we had back-to-back #TacoTuesday dinners, one for our very first private booking of 2017, and another one for a public supper club dinner.
So what makes our tacos so special? Well for one, our heritage. Most of us at The Art House Supper Club are Mexican, either by birth or by naturalization, and the rest of us by heart. We visit our homeland yearly and in the months we spend in Vancouver, we often eat Mexican food, both in and out of our home. We simply can’t get enough!
Our Chef Rose was born in Canada, but after living in Mexico for over 20 years, she’s mastered the techniques of some of the country’s most popular recipes, and we all love sharing our heritage with our guests. Our inviting supper club is what really makes a difference though, a unique dining experience, whether you eat inside in our art-filled (very Mexican, by the way) dining room, or outside in our lush North Vancouver garden.
So what can you expect? As everyone who has visited our supper club knows (as well as those who have yet to visit, but follow our blog and social media channels), we always serve multi-course dinners. While our menus are usually four-courses, those who come to dine for our #TacoTuesday dinners will be fed course after course of delicious Mexican goodies.
Starter – Our #TacoTuesday dinners start with anything BUT tacos. We alternate between beginning our meal with a delicious homemade empanada with chicken in mole sauce, tuna or seasoned ground beef; or a newly introduced starter of a tostada: a deep-fried corn tortilla topped with refried beans, chicken, lettuce and cheese.
Main Course – Our chef prepares a variety of tacos for our guests, all of which are served in corn tortillas. Our menu changes from time to time, but you will always find three different varieties of tacos at any meal: carnitas, slow-roasted pork loin marinated with lime and tequila, served with avocado and cilantro; rajas, roasted Poblano and coloured peppers in cream; asado, Barbecued beef flank; and/or al pastor: braised pork meat marinated with guajillo chilli sauce, served with grilled pineapple, cilantro and onions. During the main course, guests can help themselves to seasoned rice, refried beans and cactus salad, as well to a variety of salsas to complement their meals!
Mango Tacos with Goats Milk Caramel
Dessert – To end the mea with a bang, we alternate in between a delicious rich coconut or coffee flan with the consistency of creamy cheesecake, or our house special: warm mango tacos, drizzled with goat’s milk caramel! All desserts are served with coffee or tea, of course!
BYOB – as with any of our supper club dinners, our #TacoTuesday nights are BYOB. While we always encourage our guests bring wine, for this specific dinner we recommend bringing light Mexican-style beers instead… but the choice is always yours.
If your mouth is watering after reading this, maybe it’s time that you join us at The Art House Supper Club for one of our Taquizas! We regularly host these as a public supper club long-table dinners, but if you have a group of eight or more, we’ll be happy to cook especially for you and your friends. See you soon!
For our second Art House Supper Club dinner of 2017, we treated our guests to our popular Italian menu.
When we started our North Vancouver supper club in the summer of 2016, chef Rose chose to launch our family venture with this menu, and her lasagna proved so popular, that our Italian supper club dinners sold out time and time again throughout the summer!
Why Italian? Our family has many backgrounds, but I’ll have to accept that no, Italian sadly isn’t in our blood. We all love Italy though (it is my personal favourite country in the world!) and we love everything that culinary Italy has to offer.
“Rose’s passion for food and the love she poured into the preparation could be tasted in every bite!” – Alex G, guest of the Art House Supper Club, June 2016.
Our chef is passionate about creating the perfect meal every time, a passion which is palpable in this colourful menu. From marinating mushrooms and roasting peppers for our antipasti starter, to creating a perfect hearty-yet-light lasagna, and on to a decadent amaretto cheesecake for dessert, every dish in this menu is full of colour and personality – not to mention flavour!
Tuscan Antipasti – prosciutto, roasted peppers, pickled mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts and a medley of olives Beef & Mushroom Lasagna* – served with our house Caesar Salad. Amaretto Cheesecake – topped with fresh raspberries & raspberry coulis Cheese Board – Fontina, Gorgonzola and smoked Gruyere cheeses, red grapes Sparkling water, coffee & tea
*This year we created a vegetarian version of the lasagna, and having tasted it myself, it is TO DIE FOR… So if you wish to join our supper club and prefer a meat-less main, this is a great option.
If you wish to join our Italian menu next time it comes around, please let us know; rumour has it we will be hosting this once again on Friday the 23rd of June 2017… but you didn’t hear that from me!
